Chapter 1
1. What problems or conflicts are presented in chapter one? Tao needing to find a rabbit is an obvious one; identify at least two more.
There were many people that were hungry in the clan, the other problem is that if Tao doesn't find the rabbit he won't be able to return to the clan.
2. Predict the resolution of each conflict.
I predict that the resolution will be that after a while the people in the clan will let anyone to draw.

Chapter 2
What two important events happen in this chapter?
The two important events that happened in this chapter were that he imagined he was in the cave that he was painting a deer and a wolf and he entered the forsaken place.
Chapter 3
1. What do Tao and Ram learn to do together?
They learn to hunt together.
2. What decision does Tao tell Volt?
That the hunt will be better if they had wolf dogs.
3. Look at Tao's decisions and actions from Volt's perspective. Pretend you are Volt. Write a first person paragraph explaining how you feel.
I would feel very angry if anyone but anyone talked back at me because I am the leader in the tribe. I would be very angry that I would sent that person to be in the meadow for a week. That person would have to hunt for his/her own food and bring food back to the camp if that person wants to keep living in the camp.

Taos mother was a very nice young girl who protected him from the harsh winter when he was just a newborn. She was supposed to leave Taos alone to die because he had a bad foot, but she didn't listen so she kept him with her so would of have lived. A quotation to prove this is when Kala tells him, "All through the long snows she kept you alive."

Tao tries to horses and a wolf dog.
2. Which is easier for him and why?
The picture that was easier for Tao was the wolf dog because he had the wolf dog like a model in the cave.

Tao hunts in the slough and he hunts with a wolf dog.

Tao draws in a cave.

That Volt is a good man by what he does.

I agree with Graybeard. Yes, because back then there were people who really did something bad to them if they didn't listen.

An important theme in this novel is that people should follow their dreams and do what they believe is right, even if they don't follow their society's expected ways.
The author examines this theme in a stone age setting. Imagine a similar situation today.

I imagined that the law would not let anyone have hundreds of snakes in their house. There was a family with snakes in their house, but they kept on dreaming to get more snakes in their house. I think that they should follow society's rule because what would happen if someone got bitten by a snake which still had poisin.

Why do you think Graybeard changed his mind?
He changed his mind because he saw Tao how desprate he was to learn how to draw.
What does this tell you about his character?
He is a very good man.

They are animals that look like great big monsters.

He almost got killed by a mammoth.

I think Graybeard is a very good teacher because he showed Tao how to draw very well.

I would like to have been taught a skill by him because he has had so much experince drawing.

The ingredients that they used was red, yellow, and white clay. They also used honey, boiled fat,clotted blood from a boar, and fish oil. The one that surprised me the most was the fish oil.
2. Why is Tao afraid at the end of the chapter?
He is afraid that Graybeard might die because he is so old and is sick.

1. Even if Ram had succeeded in hunting the deer, do you think it was a good idea of Tao's to "show off" his dog's ability to hunt?Explain.
I do not think so because Volt might think that Ram might want to take away their food so they won't have any food to take back to the clan of people.

I predict that Volt might catch Tao hunting with the wolf dog and might make him fight against Saxon.

Tao crosses the river to get away from Volt that way they won't kill him or Ram.
